Cycling towards the future: 5 inspirational examples from the world of cycling! Cycling means the use of cycles for the means of transportation, sports, or workout. Introduced to the world in the 19th centuries, cycles are becoming part of people’s daily lives throughout the world to cover short distances in small towns.  People usually embrace cycling for various purposes. In comparison to vehicles and motorbikes, cycles provide great health benefits minimizing various health issues. It is, in every way, better than sticking to a sofa reading a Superhero Movie Bollocks post somewhere on the internet! In addition to this, when it is about usual transportation from home to shopping mall, restaurant, or hospital, cycles are easier to carry and, most importantly, park in crowded cities. Research says that fifteen bicycles can be accommodated in the same place that one car occupies.  Cycles also reduce the air pollution as they do not need fuel to start and excrete harmful smoke. Cycling also reduces noise pollution, traffic congestion, and emission of harmful gases. Besides that, cycles are much cheaper than the other transportation means.  The amalgamation of all these provide great health benefits too. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cycling can minimize a lot of fatal diseases to a great extent such as cancer, diabetes, and various heart disorders.  While cycling comes with great benefits that would make you better off health-wise, people are hesitant in adopting cycling because of various reasons.  Sometimes they lack motivation to start it. Other times the fear of falling down and getting injured keeps them from adopting cycling. If you are among those people who are reluctant to use cycles, you have come to the right place.  We will take you through five inspiring stories from cycle fans that might encourage you and get you started with cycling.
  • Flor Melendez

Flor says, “learning to ride was one of the top five days”. Flor Melendez, 24, is a working woman. She always wanted to learn cycling but was afraid of falling down.  She used to get embarrassed when learning to ride a cycle in a park among 7 year old kids. However, she somehow found a way and signed up for cycling classes in NewYork.  Before she started with the proper training institute, she would not get any other instructions except “keep paddling”. On the contrary, she was taught very well at the institute and finally rode a cycle on her own. She says that she does not remember the day she walked for the first time, but it would be as big as the day I am riding a bicycle on my own.
  • Sana Mazoor

Sana says, “it’s exhilarating – I feel like I am really travelling”. Sana has two sisters and both know how to ride a bike. And when it came to Sana, her parents believed she would also learn on her own.  Unfortunately, she could not. Living her early life in a Pakistani city known as Karachi was never easy in terms of learning to ride a bike, because the city is very crowded and not very bicycle-friendly. However, after coming to New York in 2017, she decided to learn it “no matter what”.  She joined cycling classes. Sana, who believed can never learn how to ride a cycle, was cycling on her own after a few lessons. Along with cycling she learned another thing: it is never impossible to do things you want to – you just lack courage to get started.
  • Eric Fulmer

Eric says, “riding puts me in a much better mood”. For Eric, 26 and a software engineer, it was never easy to ride a bicycle. Probably, he had a lot of things to do in life and he barely got time for any hobbies. However, he started to feel sick because of not working out a lot.  Thus, he decided to embrace cycling as an exercise and his hobby. He learned cycling when he was 8 but had forgotten everything after 18 years. He revived his memory and started cycling on his own. He is feeling much better since then even though he is working a lot.
  • Enid Hernandez

Enid says, “I want my grandson to see me on that bike so he knows life doesn’t stop at a certain age”. Enid, 62, was not very sure if she would see her diseases go away so soon before adopting cycling as her habit.  Normally, after reaching their 50’s, people give up on life and rely on doctors’ treatment. However, Enid took her charge and adopted cycling. She is an inspiration for her grandsome and many people out there who fear cycling.
  • Ash Ahmed

Ash says, “it feels like your body is going fast, not just the bike”. After watching a video of a  cyclist’s biking trip to a mountain, Ash is also aspiring to do so. Initially a student, Ash has also chosen cycling over other transports. For Ash, cycling is simply a passion!
